Sunwing to offer weekly flights to the Dominican Republic

Starting in December 2017, passengers from eastern Québec will no longer have to travel to major urban centres to fly south. Sunwing will offer weekly flights between Mont-Joli and Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic from December 21 to March 22.

The weekly flights will depart on Thursday mornings, with passengers arriving at their hotel in the early afternoon. If the demand is strong enough, the tour operator may add other sun destinations, such as Cuba or Mexico, and extend the flight schedule until April.

This new service to the Dominican Republic is made possible by the lengthening of the main runway. In the summer of 2017, the runway will be extended to 6,000 feet in order to accommodate Boeing 737-800 aircraft, an investment of more than $3 million.
